Fun Run Bulletin Board

It's that time of year again for our elementary school...our annual Fun Run PTA fundraiser!  To advertise for it, I created a Fun Run themed bulletin board which also keeps track of donations by classroom and thanks all of our community sponsors.

I printed, cut out and wrote the names of each classroom (on the license plates) on a bus:

Read Across America - Dr. Seuss' Birthday Bulletin Board

I'm finished with our PTA's February bulletin board.  Our elementary school always celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday which is March 2nd (that day is dedicated as "Read Across America" day).  Our school celebrates all week.  The PTA sponsors a "Parents and Pastries" so we use our bulletin board to advertise for it.  Here's what I came up with this year:

Winter Bulletin Board - Read Up a Storm

I've finished designing our winter bulletin board.  We like the winter bulletin board to last through January so it's never Christmas themed.  Here's what I came up with:

You can download my image HERE.  It prints as a 42x36 inch document that I have printed at our Teacher Resource Center.  It will be hung up along the left side of the bulletin board, leaving the rest of the board empty.  I've cut out die-cut snow flakes in various colors that match the image to pass out to each class.  Each day in December and January, classes can write what books they read in class on a snowflake and hang it on the board.  Hopefully by the end of January it will be overflowing!

November Bulletin Board - Stuffed with a Great Staff!

This bulletin board was really fun to create {and won't lie - a lot of work - but totally worth it!}

(I have a little space left near the top just in case someone got missed!):

I used this PNG image (no background) and inserted individual head shots that I took of all the staff at our school including teachers, aids, admin, custodial and lunch workers.  The total came to 76 so it was no small effort but the result was super fun!

Download my image HERE.  If you aren't computer savvy, you can easily cut and paste photos into the blank head selection.

For the header on my bulletin board, I just downloaded a free font for the "STUFFED" writing that was called haystack and had it printed on 3' wide paper.  Die cut lettering would be great as well.

I purchased the golden border from Amazon HERE.

As I was putting it up, all the employees and kids walking by couldn't help but make comments about it, wondering where someone was, chuckling, etc. - I'd call that a success already!

Red Ribbon Week Bulletin Board - Star Wars Theme

I designed our PTA's bulletin board for Red Ribbon Week that also coincides as our Halloween bulletin board (since Red Ribbon Week is the week right before Halloween this year).  The theme chosen was "Star Wars" and the "Power to Choose."  This is what I came up with...

We always like to incorporate the bulletin board as part of our weekly activities (see details for what we've done in past years for Red Ribbon Week HERE and HERE).  This year the kids will be able to pledge to be drug free by signing their names on a star, cutting it out and stapling it on to the bulletin board using these stars:

You can download both of these images HERE.  The poster image is designed to print as a 3'x7' document that we have printed at the Teacher Resource Center.  The stars will be copied at our school and distributed to the teachers as whole pages.  The teacher will be able to cut out the squares for their students and the students can cut out their stars.

For the bulletin board, I'll have black butcher paper behind the poster image since our bulletin board is bigger than the poster.  I'll post my finished product as soon as I get it up.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Rising Up to Excellence

I was asked to design a bulletin board for our PTA's Teacher Appreciation Week.  The theme is "Rising UP to Excellence."  Here's what I came "up" with - ha!  We based our theme from this image HERE.

Fun Run Bulletin Board & Donations Chart

I've been busy working on our school's upcoming bulletin board which will also double as our donations chart.  The PTA's goal is to have each class gather $200.00 in donations.  The winner(s) get(s) a class party!

Each class has their own set of "runners" which I have labeled with each teacher's name (this isn't pictured above - only a demo of what the runner looks like is pictured, and not to size!).  As donations are collected over the next few weeks, the classes will advance around the track in correlation to their donation amounts.

There are 2 documents needed to create the bulletin board.  First is the basic track.  I removed our school's name and mascot to create a generic one that anyone can use:

I created enough runners for each of the classes at our school and added the teachers' names to each one.

Then I included clip art images which will be cut out and placed around the track. These items are all present at our school's Fun Run so it was fun to incorporate them into the bulletin board.  I also have all the business logos who have helped sponsor our race as well.  As we get more, I'll simply add them to our board.

Dr. Seuss Bulletin Board

These are the pieces I sent in to our school's Teacher Resource Center for printing.  It will print out as a 3' x 6' document.  Our elementary school's February (and into March) bulletin board needed to accomplish several items:

1.  Valentine's Day - so our school LOVES to read!

2.  Advertise for our school's book fair

3.  Advertise for our school's read-a-thon on Dr. Seuss' birthday

I know most school's won't need all of our school's detailed events :) so I created a more generic image to help others:

You can download the image HERE.  For the Dr. Seuss font, I downloaded this Grinch 2.0 font HERE.  You can use that font to fill in your school's name if you like.

To assemble the bulletin board, I will have a white butcher paper background with red butcher paper stripes going across (the stripes I cut are 5 inches wide with 5 inches of white in between).  Then I'll cut out all the images and arrange them so they look correct!

Teacher Holiday Gift

I thought these would make the perfect gift for my kids' school teachers!

I found the cutest poem for teachers HERE.  It even included the image to download!  

ThenI found $2.00 4x6 red frames at Target...

The image above didn't quite fit right so I adjusted it.  You can download my adjustment HERE to have it fit a 4x6 frame.  I had mine printed at Costco as a 4x6 lustre picture...easy!

These would also make great holiday PTA gifts to teachers!  Our school this year has a lot of male teachers and this gift would be great for both genders!!

Winter Wonderland Bulletin Board

Since the holidays take up a lot of calendar time for December (okay, and it's one less thing to do around the crazy holidays), our PTA likes to combine December and January bulletin boards.  Here's what I came up with:

I give credit to my husband who suggested I should do something about being outside and having fun in the snow (he's a serious skiier and winter is his FAVORITE season!).  So after some Googling, I found this general idea HERE and ran with it.

I was just going to have the document above printed but then I decided to cut out all the images and piece it all together, letting me utilize a little more space on the bulletin board (the above image prints as a 3'x6' document where our bulletin board is 4'x8'.  So below are all my "pieces" to print that I'll cut out and arrange similar to how I have them placed in the above document...

Gobbling up Colorful Books Bulletin Board

I asked our PTA President this year if she had any ideas for a Thanksgiving bulletin board and she said something about being thankful for books.  This is what I came up with along those lines!

I found the original idea HERE.  I printed my document at our Teacher Resource Center as a 3' x 6' document.  If you'd like to use it, I removed our school's name so anyone can.  You can download a JPEG copy of this document HERE or a PDF copy HERE (the PDF version may be to small to print large-scale so I'd recommend the JPEG version).  I'd also suggest adding your school's name with some fun die cuts!

If you'll notice the turkey is BARE...and for good reason!  The classes, throughout the month of November, can add a feather each day for any books they read together.  The goal is to have the turkey filled up by Thanksgiving recess.  When I put up the document, I may score around the top half of the turkey so feathers can be partially tucked under the head and shoulders.  Then I'll just staple around the head so it doesn't fold downward but so the feathers can still be tucked.

You can download them HERE.  I also had these printed at our Teacher Resource Center but on various fall colored sheets of paper (red, green, yellow and orange).  Each teacher will receive 3 sheets which should get them through the whole month. I also created these feathers for individual classes to use if you like, instead of a whole school.  Find those feathers HERE.

I typed up a simple instruction sheet for each teacher to attach to the feathers that reads:

Hi Teachers:

This month, the PTA bulletin board will be tracking the books your class reads together...

Each day when a book is read, cut out a feather, fill it out and staple it to the turkey located on the bulletin board in the front hall (the more random the colors, the better!  You should have enough feathers to add one for each school day in November.

The goal is to get the turkey filled by Thanksgiving recess!

Red Ribbon Week Bulletin Board

I'm finished designing our Red Ribbon Week / Halloween bulletin board!  I did it in conjunction with our Red Ribbon Week Coordinator who themed our Red Ribbon week "Fly High with a Natural High."

I sent it to our Teacher Resource Center for printing on the big poster-sized paper via JPEG format HERE.  But if a PDF file is better, that one is HERE.  It printed up as a 3' x 6' document.  For a border, I purchased this solid black trim from Amazon HERE that I'll hopefully be able to re-use on other bulletin boards.

Then, as part of our Red Ribbon week activities, the kids will be able to pledge to not to do drugs with these little bats:

Download that document HERE.  I also had these printed at our Teacher Resource Center on card stock in black.  Each student will get a bat (10 bats per page - with enough pages to go to each class to be cut out for the students) and sign their name in the white box.  Then as classes, they will come staple them on the white portion of the bulletin board.  Super easy but super fun!

Red Ribbon Week

I was in charge of Red Ribbon Week at our elementary school last year.  It was a big success so I thought I'd share for those needing ideas!

There were 4 different areas we focused on for our Red Ribbon Week:

1.  The first area was a Spirit Week (what kid doesn't love a good spirit week?) We sent home a Spirit Week Flyer the week before so the kids could prepare:

You can download an editable document (so you can input the date or make changes you need for your school) HERE.  *Hats are normally not permitted in our school district so we get special permission to wear them during a spirit week*

2.  Handouts.  Each child received something from the PTA that was Red Ribbon related.  Each morning we placed the items in the teacher boxes to be handed out during the morning news announcements.  Here's what the gifts were:

Monday: Bracelets purchased from Oriental Trading HERE

Tuesday: Stickers from Oriental Trading HERE

Wednesday: Pencils from Oriental Trading HERE

Thursday: Bookmarks (the kids made them - see details below)

Friday: Twizzlers – “Don’t let drugs twist your mind! from Oriental Trading but I can't see them anymore.  You can find all their Red Ribbon week treats HERE.  The Twizzlers were individually wrapped and we stapled on this tag that we printed on red paper and had cut out:

3.  Each handout coincided with a {simple} activity...each activity took about 5 minutes, except maybe the bookmark:

Monday: Ribbons tied on the fence in the front of the school.  We found red ribbon at a local retailer and cut them into about 8 inch strips.  Each class walked out and the students tied their own ribbons on.  The Principal asked that we keep the ribbons on as long as they looked good.  Our Student Council took them down a few months later.

Tuesday: Place signed sticker (their "pledge" to be drug free) on our bulletin board:

Wednesday: color the picture to hang in hallway or on classroom door found HERE.  They used their new pencils (and crayons if they wanted) for this activity.  We had both of these pages printed back-to-back so kids could draw and/or write how they'd be drug free:

Thursday: Make a drug-free bookmark.  The PTA provided the paper bookmark and the teachers used any craft supplies to decorate.  The crazier the better!  Here are my samples I created at home:

You can download it HERE.  I printed the sheets on various colors of neon-colored card stock I bought at Wal-Mart and then we had them cut apart.  The kids did the actual cutting out.

Friday: This video was shared with our morning announcements:

4.  Everything was announced every morning over the news.  Here's our write-up:

Monday:  We hope everyone is RED-Y [get it!] for Red Ribbon Week!  Thanks to all the kids who wore their red or their school t-shirts!  Today, all students will be receiving a Red Ribbon Week bracelet, thanks to our PTA!  Try to wear them all week long!

Also, all classes should have received red ribbons!  Each class today needs to walk out to the front of the school and tie the ribbons on the fence in a double knot!  Let’s show our community our school is drug free!!

Tuesday: Is everyone ready to walk out on drugs today?  We hope you all wore your mismatched shoes & socks!  All students will receive a Red Ribbon Week sticker today to wear and a tag to pledge to be drug free!!  Sign your name on your tag and as a class, march on over to the bulletin board located just outside the office and hang them up!  Let’s all pledge to be drug free!

Wednesday: So glad to see so many students putting a cap on drugs!  Great hats!!  Today, all students will receive a Red Ribbon Week pencil!  You can use your pencils to write what you’ll do instead of drugs, and then color a picture on the other side.  Make sure to hang your papers in the hall outside your classrooms!

Thursday:  Doing drugs is crazy – just like a lot of our students’ hair!  Great job with the crazy hair day!    All students today will be able to decorate a crazy bookmark to take home for being drug free!  Get creative and use crayons, markers, scissors, hole punches, anything you like to make it CRAZY!!

Friday:  You all must have great dreams because you look fantastic in your pajamas!   Thanks for participating in our Red Ribbon Week this week!  All students will receive a Red Ribbon Week candy Twizzler!  “Don’t let drugs twist your mind!”  Also, all classes need to watch this 2 1/2 minute YouTube video entitled, “I’m Only Me if I’m Drug Free!”

5.  I suppose there were 5 venues where we advertised Red Ribbon Week.  We made sure the date was on our marquee located outside our school.  It just read "Red Ribbon Week [date]."  It began the week before Red Ribbon Week started.

*All teachers were emailed a copy of this information the week before Red Ribbon Week so they were aware of the daily activities, handouts, etc.  They appreciated being informed beforehand and the feedback I received from them was that it was well organized, the activities were simple yet well implemented and received, and everyone had a great week!
